DIY Vision Cage

A lot of reptiles like to be secretive and hide during the day. Oftentimes, the solution to the problem is to get a vision cage…but they can be pretty expensive. Instead, you can just buy black poster boards. All you have to do is measure the sides and the back of you cage and then tape it to the outside of the tank.

DIY Hammock

This is a really easy DIY you can do for your pet reptile. All you need is fabric that is sturdy enough to hold your reptile, and suction cups. To make one, cut your fabric into a square and fold it in half. Then, cut little openings in each corner and connect the suction cups. That’s it, just add it to your enclosure and you’re done!

Collect Your Own Wood

Drift wood and other types of wood can cost a lot online and in stores. A cheaper alternative would be to go to a local river and collect your own drift wood.

IMPORTANT: Make sure you properly sanitize/sterilize the wood before putting it in your reptiles enclosure! There are a few different methods of sterilizing, the easiest one being heat. Bake your wood in an oven set at 250 to 300 degrees Fahrenheit for about 30 to 60 minutes. Watch it carefully because obviously it’s a big fire hazard!

Here’s some options if you want to buy instead…

Use Tin Foil/Towels to Keep in Humidity

Instead of buying plexiglass or glass to put on top of your tank, you can use tin foil. Simply fold it in half and place it on top of the screen lid. You still want to leave a bit of room to still allow air circulation within the cage.

If you do not have a heat lamp/source of heat on the top of your reptiles cage you can use a damp towel instead. Just fold it in half and place it on the top of the cage. Both options are especially good for when your reptile is shedding because they are really easy to take off.

Salt and Pepper Shakers For Powder

Many reptile owners need to dust their reptiles insects in calcium and other supplements. This process can get quite messy…but a good solution is to get salt and pepper shakers. With these, you just have to fill them up with whatever powder(s) your reptile needs.

Use Storage Bins/Baskets for Organization

Storage bins and baskets are great for keeping supplies organized. You can group your supplies based on their function and put them in separate containers. It looks much better than having supplies all over the house.
