Ferrets are fun, high-spirited pets that require a safe, secure, and comfortable enclosure to spend time in when you’re not around to supervise them. The right ferret cage can actually make the difference between an enjoyable experience and a stressful one.
It is best to have ferrets run freely in the house. However, you may need to cage them at night, or when you’re not around to supervise them and avoid any incidents – both to your home and to your pet!
Basic Cage Requirements
Ferrets have a few basic requirements when it comes to finding a suitable enclosure…
- The cage should measure at least 36″W x 24″L x 24″H (for 1-2 ferrets)
- They require a cage that can be securely closed and locked (they have a reputation of being escape artists.)
- Bars should be very sturdy and spacing should be no bigger than 1 inch apart
- The flooring should be solid (avoid wood though)
*Make sure you keep your ferrets environment temperature at or below 27 o C (80 o F) and ensure that their cage is well ventilated. Ferrets are very sensitive to heat stroke.

MidWest Deluxe Ferret Nation Cage (Double) Review
The Deluxe Ferret Nation cage is a top favourite among many ferret owners. It weighs about 93 lbs, but comes with wheels for easy transport. The cage dimensions are 25″ x 36″ x 63″ and it has a bar spacing of 1″.
There are 2 options to choose from; a single unit or a double unit. Many ferret owners decide to go with the double because it gives your ferret more room inside. The units can be easily taken off and can even be used as a crate for transporting your ferret to the vet if needed. Several units can also be put together to even create an even larger infinite super cage.
This cage contains a large middle shelf that prevents dangerous falls. The flooring and middle shelf are wire, however, the Deluxe Ferret Nation cage provides you with two plastic trays to cover it up. It has double doors on each unit that can even be removed if wanted for really easy access into the interior of the cage. As well as a very solid locking mechanism that is easy to use. The quality of the cage is well worth the money and is definitely a great choice for any ferret owner.

Feisty Ferret Cage Review
The Feisty Ferret Cage is another wonderful enclosure that many ferret owners enjoy. It’s not as big has the Double Ferret Nation Cage but still is large enough for 1-2 ferrets to live inside. The cage dimensions are 21″ x 31″ 54″ and it has a bar spacing of about 1″. It weighs approximately 50 lbs and has wheels for easy transport.
Like the ferret nation cage, this enclosure has a large middle shelf to prevent falling. Unfortunately, both the bottom of the cage and middle shelf have exposed wire flooring which increases the risk of injuries. It’s recommended to put something over top of the wire flooring such as a tray or cardboard. This enclosure also has two front doors (one on top & one on bottom), meaning only half the cage can easily be accessed for cleaning. There is also an escape-proof lock to secure your ferret inside.

The Ferplast Ferret Tower is another good option. The dimensions of the cage are 29.5″ x 31.5″ x 63.4″ (LxWxH) and the bar spacing is about 0.5″. It weighs about 52 lbs however there are optional wheel castors included.
This cage has a middle shelf in the form of a removable 6-inch deep plastic tray, meaning the litter and debris should stay in the enclosure. There is a door on each level, plus an extra door on the roof for easier access to the interior.
Assembly is relatively easy but a little difficult at times so it’s recommended to take breaks. Check the reviews for some tips. This enclosure is a bit more expensive than the others, however, that is due to the included accessories; a large water bottle, litter pan, food dish, 2 adjustable play tubes, 2 ramps, 3 adjustable platforms & a fun hanging hammock.

The Prevue Deluxe Critter Cage is very similar to the first two cages in terms of its overall appearance. The dimensions are 37 x 23.13 x 63.38 inches and there is a bar spacing 7/16’’. It weighs 58 lbs and has wheels.
This enclosure comes with 5 shelves, 3 ramps, and 1 hammock. It’s fairly customisable in terms of where you place the levels, however it’s recommended that you do place three shelves in the middle as shown on the product to prevent falling injuries.
The cage is really easy to assemble and is pretty heavy duty but also sturdy and lightweight. There are two double doors located at the front of the cage with a safe lock to keep your ferrets inside. The flooring at the very bottom of the enclosure is exposed wire so you may want to cover it up with something to avoid any unwanted accidents. Overall, this enclosure is liked by many ferret owners and is a great cage to buy.
